Brockwood Park School & Krishnamurti Foundation

Learning without authority, living without conditioning

Why We’ve Invited Brockwood

WholeFam’s Fall 2025 Field Research Project seeks out communities that embody new models of sanctuary and learning. Brockwood Park School, founded on the teachings of J. Krishnamurti, stands as one of the rare places in the world where education is not about fitting into a system, but about awakening the innate freedom and curiosity of the human being.

We believe Brockwood’s work has relevance not only for children and youth but also for adults seeking to unlearn the internalized patterns of a world that has left many burned out, distrustful, and disconnected.

What We Hope to Learn

  • Education as Sanctuary: How the daily rhythm of learning, dialogue, and quiet inquiry at Brockwood can serve as a model for adults seeking inner renewal.
  • Unconditioning in Practice: What it looks like to sustain Krishnamurti’s vision of inquiry without authority — and what challenges and discoveries have emerged over time.
  • Community as Classroom: How students, staff, and residents live and learn together without traditional hierarchies of power.
  • Lessons for Future Sanctuaries: How the principles of freedom, silence, and responsibility can inform WholeFam’s sanctuaries for women, families, and communities in transition.

Why This Matters to WholeFam

WholeFam is dedicated to creating sanctuaries where people can both step away from harmful systems and recover the inner freedom to live differently once safe.

Brockwood offers a living demonstration of:

  • Learning without conditioning
  • Relating without authority
  • Cultivating curiosity and care as the foundation of community life

For us, these are not just educational principles — they are essential practices for re-humanization.

Our Inquiry with Brockwood

During our residency we hope to explore:

  • How Brockwood sustains Krishnamurti’s vision across generations
  • How children are supported to think and perceive freely, and how these same methods might serve adults
  • How authority, responsibility, and belonging are balanced in practice
  • How the school adapts to the pressures of modern educational expectations without losing its spirit

Project Context

This visit is part of the WholeFam Field Research Project – Fall 2025, a comparative study of contemplative, ecological, educational, and artistic communities across Europe. Our aim is to gather and share lessons that will inform the development of future sanctuaries and provide open-source guidance for others seeking to build resilient, compassionate communities.
